Performance titleDisability Gymnastics from the Beginning
Gymnastics is a beautiful sport. It is also a wonderful physical educational experience for everyone, but more so for those with a disability. This workshop will demonstrate, with the help of Spartac’s gymnasts, the benefits of our sport, using Active Therapy techniques, that have proved in many cases, to be life changing! Presenter: Dave Rozzell, supported by Dawn Rozzell-Howens & Elaine Bennett Background: Dave has been coaching women’s gymnastics for over forty years. In 1983 he pioneered disability gymnastics as National Coach for Special Olympics and British Gymnastics in 1986. He has done workshops in Zimbabwe on behalf of the F.I.G. and introduced the disability programme in Russia, Poland & Hong Kong. His work today is C.E.O. of the charity “Active Therapy Foundation” which is based on his work with kinaesthetics in gymnastics. Dawn is a former regional gymnast and is now head coach of Spartac Gymnastics Club. She has a 7-year-old son with Down’s syndrome in the Spartac display and has worked with her father for 12 years as an Active Therapist. Elaine is a doctor of neuroscience and has 3 children in Spartac’s display team. Due to the success of Active Therapy with her youngest daughter she decided to become an Active Therapist herself
